The cartridge filter housing is a device used in various fluid filtration applications to hold and secure filter cartridges. These housings are designed to enclose and support one or more filter cartridges, which are responsible for removing particles, impurities, or contaminants from liquids or gases passing through them.
DIN flanges are popular in continental Europe and China, with PL RF type PN10 flanges commonly used. In China, the standard number for these is HG/T 20592
ASME B16.5 flanges are popular in the Americas, the Middle East, and the Australia-New Zealand region, with CLASS 150 SO RF flanges commonly used. In China, the standard number for these is HG/T 20615
JIS flanges are popular in Japan, South Korea, and some Southeast Asian countries, with 10K PL RF flanges commonly used
BSPP threads are parallel and non-tapered, requiring sealing materials, and are popular in Europe, Asia, and Commonwealth countries
BSPT threads are tapered with a 55° angle, designed for pressure-tight seals, require sealing tapes, and are widely used in Europe, Asia, and Commonwealth countries
NPT threads, featuring a 60° taper for a tighter seal, are widely used in North America and among U.S. trade partners. Sealing tape is needed for a leak-proof connection
Tri-clamp ferrules are commonly used in sanitary applications due to their ease of quick opening and cleaning. The common standards are ISO 2852 and DIN 32676
Victaulic grooved couplings can be used for quick connections, offering flexibility and reliability
The cartridge filter housing directs liquid through a filter cartridge, where the filtration media efficiently captures and removes suspended particulates and contaminants from the liquid stream.
Filtration Process Overview:
The liquid first enters the filter housing through the inlet and flows around the filter cartridges inside. As the liquid passes through the cartridges, they act like a sieve, trapping dirt and unwanted particles on their outer surfaces. The now-clean liquid moves through the hollow center of the cartridges, then exits via the outlet to continue its journey to the next stage of production.
Stainless steel is the most commonly used material, with most products made from SS-304 and SS-316L. For special applications, SS-904L, SS-2205, and SS-2507 are available as options
For corrosion-resistant applications, polypropylene is the most commonly used material. If high-temperature applications are required, PVDF is available as an option
For high-salinity applications, fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) can be chosen, and its filter housing has the capacity to hold up to 54 high-flow filter cartridges
Filter housings made of stainless steel are used for both commercial applications with low flow rates and industrial applications with high flow rates. They are applicable in areas such as industrial or municipal water treatment, chemical processing, petrochemicals, industrial manufacturing, and more
Stainless steel filter housings are designed with a sanitary construction that eliminates dead spots and facilitates easy cleaning. They are used in applications within the food and beverage industry, as well as in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and more
Filter housings made of plastic or FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) are specifically designed for filtering acidic, alkaline, and high-salinity liquids
Melt-blown cartridges and string-wound cartridges with a 2.5" outer diameter can accommodate up to 120 filter cartridges. Available cartridge styles include DOE, 222, and 226
Cartridges with an outer diameter greater than 2.68" are typically placed inside sanitary filter housings and are of the 222 or 226 style
Filter housings of the same diameter, equipped with high flow cartridges, provide higher flow rates and can accommodate up to 24 cartridges
The end cap of double-open-end (DOE) is the most common and economical type, often used in depth filter cartridges such as melt-blown and wound cartridges. Some specialized pleated membrane cartridges also use DOE with gaskets
Sealed with dual O-rings, the Push-In design allows for quick and reliable installation
Sealed with dual O-rings, the Spin-In design provides even more reliable installation
The 3M style high flow filter end caps come in two types: a large-diameter, 226-like Spin-In design (700 series) and a small-diameter, 222-like Push-In design (740 series)
Parker style high flow filter end caps feature internal O-rings and are available with either a single O-ring or dual O-rings, both utilizing a Push-In design for installation
Pall style high flow filter end caps resemble a filter bag design, where the sealing is achieved with an O-ring at the outermost ring on the top of the filter cartridge
The Eye Bolt Closure is a user-friendly mechanism that utilizes eye bolts to ensure a leak-proof seal, and is designed to be easily operated by a single person for quick and convenient opening and closing
Rated for 10 bar pressure, the heavy-duty clamp closure ensures quick and effortless opening or closing of vessel covers, enabling rapid filter bag changes. The robust, user-friendly design boosts production efficiency, ideal for frequent replacements
Designed for pressures over 16 bar, the customized high-pressure bag vessel with Hex Bolt Closure ensures safety and reliability, making it ideal for demanding applications
The most common and cost-effective way for inside & outside finishes
Brushed is a matte finish, used only for outside surface
The most costly, rust-resistant finish is used for inside & outside surface
Sanitary polishing of inside surface is ideal for food and pharmaceutical applications (Roughness ≤ 0.6 µm)
Halar is a cousin of Teflon (PTFE). The inside surface of the housing is coated to provide excellent corrosion and temperature resistance
Max Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) is the maximum pressure level to which the equipment can be exposed. Design Pressure (DP) is the highest pressure level it should be exposed to under normal operating conditions.
Design Pressure (DP) is very close to MAWP. The Max Operating Pressure (MOP) is 75% of the DP. This means the maximum continuous pressure the filter can withstand must not exceed the MOP. The Operating Pressure (OP) is the pressure at which the filter can function properly, and it must not be less than 2 bar to ensure that the liquid is transported effectively into the filter.
For customized requirements, you need to provide the Max Operating Pressure (MOP), and Seadon can tailor the design accordingly.
Design Temperature (DT) refers to the maximum theoretical temperature that the filter vessel can withstand. The Max Operating Temperature (MOT) is the temperature the filter vessel can endure under continuous operation, typically set at 70% of the DT.
If there are customized temperature requirements, you can provide the Max Operating Temperature (MOT), and a customized design can be developed accordingly.
